Tim Svodnik & Danila Stadnyuk: Live @ Kontora, Moscow

Oh Wow! You need to check this out!
This is the set up. One of these guys is the DJ and the other plays the button accordion over the top. I know, crazy, huh? But take a listen, and you'll agree with me that it just seems to work. Tim Svodnik is the DJ, Danila Stadbyuk is on the accordion, They're both from Russia, with love!
Read their bio below
"Danila Stadnyuk is one of the most prominent accordion players not only in Russia, but all over the world. He fronts several Russian orchestras including the Ossipov National Academic Folk Instruments Orchestra of Russia. Danilya plays bayan – an original Russian button accordion invented in the 19th century and named after a mythical Slavic bard.

DJ Tim Svodnik & Danila Stadnyuk perform together since 2007. They can be heard playing funky lounge and slow mo disco in various cafes and restaurants, working the crowd in the night-club or pleasing the musical discernees at Moscow's Usadba Jazz Fest and the likes."

This mix is a live set they would have played at one of the cafe's, bars or niteclubs of Moscow. It's a great mix for listening to in the headphones, but would sound good this weekend, late into Saturday night.

Wolf and Cub -- See The Light / All Through the Night

Heard this on the radio on Wednesday and was really impressed. Sun was shining and this just wafted through the windows with the breeze.

Nice little change up to the usual disco stuff you'll hear on here. But, take a little listen. I think you'll enjoy it

Roy Ayers -- Running Away (manmademusic edit)

A dub-tastic version of a noodly little number you might already know. This one rolls along nicely and you can hear the lyrics bouncing gently behind these beats, but they're not there. All dub, and would suit a mix with some bongos on the start or finish.

I'm not too sure who manmademusic is, but he came up on my Soundcloud feed, and this song was stripped back enough to spark my attention. Get the download before Labour Day.

DJ Same -- Head Nodder Mix

This has been getting a bit of airtime at my place lately. It will get your head a nodding, too. Lots of great tunes in here, and quite nicely mixed, as well. Look for some Pink Floyd, some Queen, some Missy Elliot. Whatever happened to Missy Elliot?

Blow Your Whistle (Soggy Disco Biscuit remix) -- Soul Searchers

This song really didn't need a remix treatment. Have you heard the original? It's pretty good, considering it comes straight outta 1972!!!

But, like always, I couldn't help myself. Had to mess around with that riff. Drop those bongos over the top. Flick around with the lyrics. Echo and delay them. Chuck a couple of breaks in. It's such a B-Boy tune, this! Imagine standing up with ya crew, facing off to this tune!. You'd have no problems. Especially if you could body-pop!

Enjoy! and play it loud to your next dancefloor!

Yothu Yindi – Treaty (Leftside Wobble Edit)

This has always been one of my favourite tracks and it's nice to see one of my favourite remixers weave his magic over it. When this first came out, it would smash up the dancefloor. I'll often play the original as part of a warm-up set, but it could very easily fit into a peak time dance bracket.

This version doesn't mess around too much with the original feel. Plenty of didge in there, still. That bumping beat, the Aboriginal chant over the top. All good stuff, fella!

Whitney Houston -- I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Eat More Cake Remix)

I dare say there'll be a few DJs playing some Whitney Houston tracks this weekend. Here's what I'll be playing. And I might put "The Bodyguard" on the tele come Sunday.

Soul II Soul -- Complete Discography

Nothing says the end of the 80s more than the Funky Dreads; Soul II Soul. Their rise from a humble sound system in London, to Grammy winning megastars seemed to lift everyone out of the recession filled funk we were all in. Their tunes sound timeless, their beats came at a time when everyone was listening to New Jack Swing, and you could dance to them.

They're coming to Melbourne really soon. Hopefully I'll get to see them. If not, at least we can listen to all of their albums.

Club Classics Volume One / Keep on Movin'
Vol. II: 1990 - A New Decade
Volume III: Just Right
Volume V: Believe

Try To Find Me - Sir Mr Doctor To You

I like the sound of this one. It's the B-Side that's got me interested, here. How's that for a name of a track; "sir mr doctor to you".

This song is a couple of years old now, but I only just found it. It comes from the Golf Channel label and is well worth your time listening to it.

A nice intro that slowly builds into some wonky, keyboard and synth action. But it's when we get to the big cheesy vocal, telling us he's "your doctor of love" that the pay -off comes.

Or take a listen on this weird player below.

Soul Searchers - Blow Your Whistle

I'm working on a remix of this song at the moment. Such a great track. I think it first came out in 1972, so I'm a little bit older than it. That's good! I'm sure he's singing "soggy disco biscuit" in there when he hits the chorus. Good song! Thanks to Greg Wilson for putting me onto this.

Frankie Knuckles - "CHICAGO STYLIN' - May 2010

What is there left to be said about Frankie Knuckles, the Godfather of House, that hasn't already been said? The guy basically invented house music -- playing at Chicago's "The Warehouse" in the 80s and prompting people to go looking for "that 'house sound" on Sunday morning after one of his sets. That's where the word came from -- house music all night long ... get up!

There are soooooo many good sets by the man floating around the internet these days. I've danced to his tunes many times. A lot at the Ministry of Sound in London in the early 90s. Then, a crazy rave party in the Docklands in Melbourne in the late 90s where he DJ'ed a laaaate set of disco classics. Also caught a set of his at the Prince Of Wales with my dance buddy Shauno in the early 2000's.

The guy was born in 1955. He's probably older than your dad. And yet, he's still out there playing tunes to the gay massive! Here's a great set of his from a couple of years ago that I know you'll love.

A nice little mixtape from Goldroom, a guy from Los Angeles. Lots of synths, tropical dreamy vocals, and a real Miami feel for the guys at Therapy Life. That Moullinex track is everywhere, isn't it?
