Golden Era -- David Morales & Roisin Murphy

So here's a combination that makes sense. Roisin Murphy and David Morales. Of course! Why didn't we think of this earlier? Like back in the summer of 1998, when both of these artists were actually relevant and hitting the charts, rather than 14 years later when both of them look like they should be hitting the buffet table at an RSL not hitting a dancefloor. Derp!

But anyways, this little house number is still a guaranteed blockbuster rather than a tanking filibuster. Morales still knows how to put a disco-hosue tune together. You've got your bongos, your big drums, a salsa rhythm that morphs pretty quickly into a "clap -> high hat -> kick drum" house beat that is 1998 all over again.

So, back in those days, we used to buy CD Singles, knowing that there'd be a remix somewhere that would be good. A "Full Intention" rework, a "Boris Dlugosch" remix. Something a little harder, or a little softer. Depending on what you wanted. Check out the remixes below. My choice is the DJ Meme remix, just for the way it bounces.

It's good to have these two back. Bring it back! It does sound a little old, but you know, disco is old. So what!

I Got Burned -- The Bamboos

I can't stop listening to this song. Strong lyrics, soulful grooves and a well informed down-tempo smooch that just blends into any mood you're wearing at the moment.

Who are The Bamboos? Well, they're a tight funk and soul outfit who have been playing around Melbourne for over 10 years. They're festival mainstays, and indie radio darlings, but it's their live shows that get everyone talking.

And who's Tim Rogers? Well, shame on you for asking.

Global Underground -- Complete Set

In the 90s, the Global Underground record label held a huge stable of every big name DJ. These guys were just starting to tour the world, taking the Global Underground sound with them, and everywhere they landed, a party would start. Take a look at some of the names below. Massive DJs with massive tunes for the dance party massive!

These sets were not actual recordings from the gig in that city, but rather, a reflection on the tunes played that night, as well as a feeling of the sound that particular city was offering at the time.

Only one thing better than a big, rolling bass, and that's a smoky, sultry female voice over the top. Sleazy? You bet! Italio-Sleaze? Even better! How about some cow-bells, some jingle-bells, some dingle-berries?

The Cleptomaniacs loved this back in 1999. I'm loving this remix by DJ Butcher, He's from Greece, so send him some love. Or a few dollars!

Soggy Disco Biscuit -- Volume 15

Hooray for the first of the month. The mixtape is here and this one is a smooth retro mix. Lots of old tracks that I know you're gonna love. It'll warm up your winter, for sure.

Old tunes with long remixes that are fun and crazy and quirky and fresh. That Tina Turner re-shape just gets better with every listen. Such a clever reworking. And look out for the drop in the Led Zeppelin tune, it blows up. Some old Stereo MC's transitioned beautifully into the song of the year so far. W.E.P will be massive this year. And from there, it gets all old-skool. Billy Ocean, Madonna, Hall & Oats (kinda) and a Chris Isaak favourite to finish.
